how do you define sleep training?
To me sleep training is teaching a skill to a child which may or may not be met with protest. Somehow the term sleep training has become closely tied to the cry it out method which isn't the only way to address it. There is much move involved in the big picture of sleep training. The goal is to teach a child how to fall asleep on their own and connect sleep cycles during the night so that sleep is consolidated and leads to better sleep for them and us too! To get there we need to start with foundations, optimal environment, implementing routines, finding an age appropriate schedule. Once established we implement method which involves co regulating with the child until they learn an important skill.

how long until I’ll see my plan?
After receiving your intake form I will allow myself 3-5 days to review the intake info and write out your personalized plan. After it has been sent out we will book a call to review, alternatively can send a video explanation and you can reply with any questions via email. We will solidify a start date at that time.

opinions on tears
As much as I would love to deliver a 100% tear free way of getting some sleep, I cant. If I could I’d have a line up out the door. Some methods are more involved so there is more comforting reassurance to the child, but no method is going to be tear free. I know tears are a huge trigger. I’m a parent of 2 and I’ve had to do the work to get where we are today with sleep so I understand that it is hard. With a mindset shift they can be more tolerable. Reminding yourself in the moment that you have met all their needs and are teaching a valuable skill. They are learning and frustrated and don’t have the emotional capacity yet to communicate that in any other way. Co-regulating alongside them is actually a great way to promote attachment, not damage it!
If the crying with mindset shift still has you on edge try some earplugs to lessen it or some airpods with your favorite podcast! But there will be crying we will work through it and improve our self regulation while we improve our littles sleep
